Solvang, California, a Danish settlement founded in 1911 by Danish educators, is located about 35 miles north of Santa Barbara and 135 miles north of LA, up Highway 101 in the Santa Ynez mountains.  It's a very picturesque village and a shoppers paradise.  Mission Santa Inez, founded in 1804, is located near the south end of Solvang.  Ventura is about 65 miles from downtown LA, on the coast about 35 miles south of Santa Barbara.
